Aims of the research project

Using the example of the medieval deserted settlement Marsleben, the communication and presentation system shall insure the interdisciplinary knowledge exchange among the participants of the research project as well as the participation of the broader public on the research process.

Aims of the research project are, among others:

Scientific-methodological aims

  • Bundle different research activities within the project
  • Conduct empirical studies and surveys
  • Develop methodological knowledge for the presentation of research processes in the public


Technological aims

  • Catalogue, order and visualise the data sets like digital excavation data, photos and drawings for the participants on the reconstruction process
  • Offer possibilities for site-dependent and site-independent analysis and reconstruction of settlements and their hinterland
  • Ensure the compatibility of the communication system for further reconstructions
  • Create a dynamic model of the phases of Marsleben
  • Present automatically the analysed data to the public
  • Integrate a variable number of input and output modules into the system
  • Structure access rights
  • Overlay all data to scale
  • Visualise graphical information on layers

 
Archaeological-scientific aims

  • Reconstruct the settlement of Marsleben
  • Analyse the reconstruction
  • Compare analogical data from excavations in Quedlinburg
  • Highlight interactions between the settlement, the land and the environment
  • Incorporate data of earlier settlements in the realm of Marsleben
  • Integrate historical sources of the town development
  • Compare sacral and profane architecture in Marsleben
